A Coruña is the second most populated city in Galicia, with more than 200.000 inhabitants (the ranking is lead by Vigo, with 300.000), and it is becoming a really popular spot to visit.

There must be something special on that long promenade along the Riazor Beach, or on the spectacularity of Mari­a Pita Square, or maybe the impressive views of the Ocean that we can contemplate from its most ancestral jewel, the Tower of Hercules.

The Tower of Hercules (Torre de Hércules)

This list could not be started without mentioning the most representative jewel of the city. The Tower of Hercules is a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2009, and it is the oldest Roman lighthouse that is still active, in the whole world. This construction, built on the I century, is linked to the Statue of Liberty, and it represents the shield of the city. It is 57 meters high, the third in Spain.

    Maria Pita Square (Plaza de María Pita)

    With an extension of more than 10.000 square meters, Mari­a Pita Square is dedicated to the heroin that in 1589 defended the city from the attacks of the

     English pirate, Francis Drake. The square is surrounded by the arcaded buildings and the iron balconies. Just a few meters away, there is the famous crystal gallery of A Coruña.

    This stadium is just a few minutes far from Riazor Beach and it is a must visit for football fans. More than 32000 spectators can witness the performance of the local team from the stadium, Deportivo de la Coruña, that was founded in 1906, and plays in the Spanish First Division.

     

    Riazor Beach (Playa de Riazor)

    The beach is a symbol of the city, as it is located in the centre of A Coruña. It has been awarded Blue Flag Beach status in recognitions of its security, surveillance, and hygiene. The promenade, more than 13 km long, is the longest in Europe. Around it we will be able to find a lot of bars and terraces, where you will be able to enjoy an aperitif surrounded by the spectacular view of the sea. On the 23rd of June, anyone will be welcome to celebrate the Bonfires of Saint John, to commemorate the longest day of the year.

    The Old Quarter

    The heart of the city of A Coruña is full of vibes, the perfect spot to go for a walk, get an aperitif, or just relax. There are many restaurants around to taste the traditional food, discover the local customs and enjoy the music on the streets.
