The Vadiniense Route or Ruta Vadiniense

The Vadiniense Route of the Camino de Santiago connects the Lebaniego Way and the French Way.

The Lebaniego Way is an alternative walk to the Northern Way, that finishes in Santo Toribio. Once there, those pilgrims who want to continue their walk up to Santiago de Compostela, must take the Ruta Vadiniense.

The walk connects Santo Toribio and Mansilla de las Mulas in 6 walking days.

    Day 1:

Arrival in Santo Toribio, starting point of the Ruta Vadiniense.

Day 2: Santo Toribio - Fuente Dé (25 km)

Before leaving Santo Toribio, we strongly recommend to visit its monastery.

Once on the way, the path passes through the Liébana Mountains (Sierra de Liébana), Pembes or Espinama.

Day 3: Fuente Dé - Portilla de la Reina (22 km)

This quite a challenging walking day, but very rewarding because of the impressive landscapes of the Picos de Europa.

Day 4: Portilla de la Reina - Horcadas (27 km)

The walk continues through unpaved paths and natural areas. Some of the highlights of the day: the Chapel of St Tirso, the reservoir of Riaño or Carande.

    Day 5: Horcadas - Cistierna (27 km)

The walk from Horcadas to Cistierna continues through small woods, rural areas and quiet paths.

    Day 6: Cistierna - Gredefes (24 km)

This stretch is quite flat, and short compared to the previous ones. It combines paved roads and rural tracks.

Day 7: Gredefes - Mansilla de las Mulas (23 km)

Last walking day before reaching Mansilla de las Mulas, on the French Way.
This is a flat walking day, that runs in parallel to the Esla River.

There are really nice picturesque villages on the way, monasteries and chapels.

    Day 8:

Check out – Mansilla de las Mulas.
