Luggage Transfer on The Camino de Santiago

¿Qué información encontrarás aquí?

THE LUGGAGE TRANSFER SERVICE IS PART OF OUR COMPLETE CAMINO PACKAGES, so unfortunately, it is not offered as a stand-alone service.

Many pilgrims think that walking 20-25 km/day with a huge backpack is not ideal and worry a lot before starting their Camino.

Sometimes, this thought makes them back down and some decide not to do the Camino because of this issue. However, you don’t have to change your mind because of this, we have the perfect solution for you!
At Galiwonders, we always offer luggage transfer on the Camino between stages, so you can fully enjoy the Camino and not have to worry about anything else!

How does the luggage transport service work ont The Camino de Santiago?

As mentioned above, this service is included as standard in all our packages on the Camino de Santiago. We understand that it is a great value, since it is very important to feel comfortable when facing the Camino. In this way, one month before the beginning of the trip, you will receive at your home a letter with: the Credentials and the Luggage Labels. On this label, you must write your name, surname, and the reference of your reservation, and put it on the suitcase. In this way, the carrier will be able to identify each suitcase correctly and transport it to the corresponding accommodation each day.

Where do I have to leave my luggage?

Your luggage should be ready at the hotel reception desk each day. Some accommodations may have special rooms to store luggage before the arrival of the carriers. We always recommend checking this at the front desk, to make sure that the suitcase is left in the right place.

What time should I drop off my suitcase, and what time will it be ready at the next accommodation?

Your luggage should be ready to be picked up by 8:30 every morning. The carrier may arrive later than this time, as it depends on your itinerary each day. But it is very important to be punctual in this regard: a delay in getting your luggage ready could mean problems in the deliveries of the whole day.

Bags are usually delivered before 15:00 (again, depending on the itinerary). Normally, when you arrive at your destination, they will be there ready. But please note that in some cases (if you arrive early, or if there are any unforeseen circumstances), you may have to wait until your luggage arrives.

How many bags are included in the service?

This service includes one bag per person, up to 17 kilos. If you want to bring extra luggage, no problem, but this will have an extra cost and we must be informed in advance.

What happens if I can’t find my suitcase when I arrive?

We have a 24-hour emergency telephone number, which you can use in case you encounter any problems during the Camino. If you arrive later than 14:00 and your luggage is not at the hotel, and the reception desk cannot locate it, do not hesitate to call us. We will contact the carrier to locate your luggage.

And above all, don’t worry, we have never had a lost suitcase that wasn’t located after a couple of phone calls! Keep in mind that there are many stops along the Camino, many accommodations, suitcases… human error can happen, but we keep detailed track of all the suitcases we move.

Carrying suitcases on the Camino: walk without hurting your back

The Camino de Santiago is becoming more and more popular every year. Pilgrims from all over the world travel from their countries to enjoy this vital experience. There are multiple motivations that move them to join this adventure: as a way to disconnect from the routine, a promise, a tribute or homage, for religious reasons, to meet pilgrims from all over the world…

The idea we traditionally have of a pilgrim is that of a person carrying a large backpack. Walking hundreds of kilometers, with a great weight on his back, from city to city, and from one hostel to the next.

But, fortunately, nowadays the Camino de Santiago has evolved in such a way that it is no longer necessary to damage your back to achieve your dream. If you have neck problems, or if you feel overwhelmed at the prospect of carrying so much weight while walking, don’t worry. You will still be able to do the Camino and enjoy the experience.

Luggage transport on the Camino: what does it mean?

The luggage transport service on the Camino is one of the most demanded services. Our transporter will move your luggage from one accommodation to another every day, so you can walk and forget about the extra weight on your back.
