Walk the last 100 km of the Portuguese Way or Camino Portugués

The Portuguese Way (Camino Portugués) is the second most popular way among pilgrims every year, beaten only by the French Camino.

It is a long way that goes from Lisbon to Galicia, and its path passes through small woods, hamlets in the countryside, and across medieval bridges. It also takes in towns of great historical importance, such as Tui or Pontevedra.

With our assistance it will be easier for you to finish the last 100 km of this route, also known as the Galician part of the Portuguese Camino (the minimum required to get the Compostela in Santiago).

Arrival in Tui, beginning of the last 100 km of the Portuguese Way.

Tui – O Porriño (18 km)

The route begins in Tui, which is a town located in the Spanish border with Portugal. Before you start the walk to O Porriño, we recommend you to visit the Cathedral, and bridge designed by Gustave Eiffel.

O Porriño – Redondela (16 km)

This stage is a bit more difficult than the others as there will be a few ups and downs, but the wonderful views over the ocean are well worth the effort. Redondela is a small town and is quite limited in terms of accommodation, this is why many pilgrims carry on to Arcade, a village which is only 7 km further (this way, they walk a little bit more in this stage and a bit less the next day).

Redondela – Pontevedra (19,8 km)

From this point up to Santiago, the path will be the same as the traditional Portuguese Camino, so you may see more Pilgrims on the way. Pontesampaio is a village which is worth seeing, it is interesting to learn about the historical events which took place there, and cross the Roman Bridge over the Verdugo river. This stage ends in Pontevedra, a beautiful town which is famous due to its historical centre and its squares made of stone.

Pontevedra – Caldas de Rei (21,5 km)

Our way out of Pontevedra will lead us back to the rural side of Galicia, so we will be able to enjoy the woods and streams. Many pilgrims stop in Barro to see the Natural Park of the Barosa River with its cascades and mills. Finally, we will arrive in Caldas de Reis, a town which is famous for its thermal spring waters and spa resorts.

Caldas de Rei – Padrón (18,6 km)

Today, the Camino passes peacefully through small villages, with dispersed houses along the route. Padrón is known as the first place on land, spotted by the boat which carried the remains of Saint James the Apostle. Also, it is the birthplace of great authors like Rosalía de Castro or Camilo José Cela.

Padrón – Santiago (24,6 km)

The last stage is the longest of this itinerary, so we advise you to start early. At the beginning the path will take you through rural landscapes as in the previous days, but during the last kilometers, as we approach Santiago, the landscape becomes more urban. When you get to Santiago do not forget to go to the Pilgrim’s Office with your Pilgrim Passport if you want to get your “Compostela” (Pilgrim Certificate).

TE RECOMENDAMOS ESTA RUTA SI...

The Portuguese Way from Tui is recommended for those pilgrims who are looking for a less visited route, but equally social and dive into the beautiful landscapes of the Galician south. The route is also perfect if you are short on time to do the full walking experience, and want to complete the minimum 100km to get La Compostelana.

Cómo llegar

Desde Vigo Airport

Car or cab: It is 25km with a duration of approximately 20 minutes.
Bus: Take the bus (LINE A) from Vigo Airport to the Urzaiz stop (Estación / Cotomondongo wall). Frequency every 30′. Once there, take a bus to Tui (LINE XG883A – Lugove), with an approximate duration of 55 minutes. For schedules and more information visit: www.vitrasa.es and https://lugove.gal/es

Desde Santiago de Compostela Airport

Car or cab: 125km and 1h 20 minutes approximately.
Bus/train: Take the bus (LINE 6A) from Santiago de Compostela airport to the bus station. Frequency every 15′ and with an approximate duration of 20′. Another option is to take a cab to the station, with an estimated duration of 15′. Then, we must take a bus (monbus) or train (renfe) to Vigo (journey time between 50 minutes to 1h and 30 minutes). Once in Vigo, take a bus to Tui (LÍNEA XG883A – Lugove), with an approximate duration of 55 minutes. Desde Porto Airport

Car or cab: It is 120km, with a duration of approximately 1h 10 minutes.
Bus: Take a bus (ALSA) from Oporto to Tui, with an estimated duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes. For schedules and more information visit: www.alsa.es

Repetir es la mejor reseña No hay mejor opinión que repetir la experiencia. Mi primera experiencia con ellos fue en marzo y ahora en septiembre repetí y volveré a hacerlo. Atentos, cumplen todo, modifican lo que les pidas a capricho

Perfecta para tener un Buen Camino Muy buena experiencia, nos organizaron el camino francés desde Sarria tal y como les pedimos saliendo todo perfecto y según lo esperado.

experiencia muy positiva Hice el camino frances desde sarria, todo muy bien organizado, a media pension,
tanto hoteles y pensiones bastante correctas.
algunos de ellos tenian restaurante, y desde luego es una ventaja, ya que al termino de la etapa del dia podias comer alli,
y sino te hacen un vale para comer muy cerca del alojamiento.
desde luego muy recomendable.
