The Portuguese Coastal Way Easy, walk at your own speed

The Portuguese Coastal Way, or Camino Portugués de la Costa, is a fairly recent route that starts in Porto and follows coastal trails towards Santiago de Compostela.

The route goes all along the coast up to the Galician border, almost in parallel with the inland Portuguese Camino. In Redondela, both Caminos join together on the same path.

The Portuguese Coastal Way Easy tour divides every walking day in two, so that you can walk your Camino at a more relaxing speed. You will start in Baiona, a beautiful town in the Rías Baixas.

Walk in your own time end enjoy the magnificent views of the Atlantic coast that this route has to offer.

Arrival in Baiona, start of the last 100 km of the Portuguese Coastal Way.

The route begins in Baiona, the first town in Europe to receive news about the discovery of America. The caravel La Pinta arrived in its port when it came back from the new continent. The walk will take you by the beaches of Nigrán, from where you’ll be able to see the magnificent Cíes Islands.

Nigrán - Vigo (17 km)

The landscape will become more urban as you get into Vigo, Galicia’s most populated city. Once there, you can walk around the city or relax in one of its beautiful beaches or its ‘terrazas’ by the sea.

Vigo – Redondela (16 km)

As you leave the city of Vigo, you will have impressive views of its beautiful estuary on the left. This walking day is light, so take the opportunity to relax in one of the many beaches you come across from Vigo to Redondela.

Redondela – Arcade (8 km)

Quiet hike around the Galician Coast, heading to the oyster town, Arcade.

Arcade – Pontevedra (11 km)

Since this stage, the route joins the Portuguese Way, so you will find more pilgrims. We recommend to stop in POntesampaio, a small town with a very interesting history. Once there, you can cross the Roman bridge above the Verdugo river, the same Almanzor crossed in 977, in his way to plunder Compostela. This stage ends up in the city of Pontevedra, famous for its old town and the shell-shaped church, Peregrina.

Pontevedra – Barro (11 km)

After leaving Pontevedra, you will walk amongst woods and streams. From this point until you reach Santiago, you will walk through rural areas. When you reach Barro, take the chance to visit the Natural Park of the Barosa River with its waterfalls and mills.

Barro - Caldas de Reis (12 km)

Your destination for the day is Caldas de Reis, a town famous for its thermal spring waters and spa resorts.

Caldas de Rei – Padrón (18,6 km)

This stretch passes peacefully through small villages, with dispersed houses along the route. Padrón is a town of great significance on the Camino: it was the first place on land spotted by the boat that carried the remains of Saint James the Apostle. The town is also the birthplace of great authors such as Rosalía de Castro or Camilo José Cela.

Padrón – Teo (12 km)

This path will take you through rural landscapes as in the previous days. Today you will pass Iria Flavia and the church of Santa María a Maior, one of the oldest in Galicia.

Teo – Santiago (12 km)

As you approach Santiago, the landscape will become more urban. When you get to the city of the Apostle do not forget to go to the Pilgrim’s Office with your Pilgrim Passport to get your Compostela!

Cómo llegar

Desde Vigo Airport

Car or cab: It is 25km, with an approximate duration of 30 minutes.
Bus: Take the bus (LINE A) from Vigo Airport to the Urzaiz stop (Estación / Cotomondongo wall). Frequency every 30′. Once there, we can take a bus to Baiona (lugove), with an estimated duration of 30 minutes. For schedules and more information visit: www.vitrasa.es and https://lugove.gal/es

Desde Santiago de Compostela Airport

Car: 133km with an estimated duration of 1h 25 min.
Bus/train: Take the bus (LINE 6A) from Santiago de Compostela airport to the bus station. Frequency every 15′ and with an approximate duration of 20′. Another option is to take a cab to the station, with an estimated duration of 15′. Then, we must take a bus (monbus) or train (renfe) to Vigo (journey time between 50 minutes to 1h and 30 minutes). To consult timetables and more information visit: https://tussa.org/, www.monbus.es and www.renfe.com . Once in Vigo, we can take a bus to Baiona (lugove), with an estimated duration of 30 minutes. Desde Porto Airport

Car or cab: It is 139km with a duration of approximately 1h 30 minutes.
Bus: There is no direct option, we must take a bus from Oporto to Vigo (Alsa or Flixbus), which takes 2 hours. Once in Vigo station, take a bus to Baiona (lugove), with an estimated duration of 30 minutes. For timetables and more information visit: www.alsa.es, www.flixbus.es and https://lugove.gal/es

Repetir es la mejor reseña No hay mejor opinión que repetir la experiencia. Mi primera experiencia con ellos fue en marzo y ahora en septiembre repetí y volveré a hacerlo. Atentos, cumplen todo, modifican lo que les pidas a capricho

Perfecta para tener un Buen Camino Muy buena experiencia, nos organizaron el camino francés desde Sarria tal y como les pedimos saliendo todo perfecto y según lo esperado.

Destacar que fuimos con un bebé y en todo alojamiento contamos con cuna tal y como habíamos pedido.

experiencia muy positiva Hice el camino frances desde sarria, todo muy bien organizado, a media pension,
tanto hoteles y pensiones bastante correctas.
algunos de ellos tenian restaurante, y desde luego es una ventaja, ya que al termino de la etapa del dia podias comer alli,
y sino te hacen un vale para comer muy cerca del alojamiento.
desde luego muy recomendable.
