Walk the last 100 km of the French Way

Enjoy the French Way, the best well known and social part of the Camino with Galiwonders. The French Way is the most popular among pilgrims every year, and it is also the leading topic of many movies, books and documentaries.

You will be able to enjoy the beautiful landscapes of the countryside of Galicia, and taste its wonderful cuisine during your journey; also, you will be able to meet many other fellow Pilgrims from all around the world along the way.

If you feel the stages are too long, don´t worry, we can offer you the possibility of splitting them in two and staying halfway, so you can walk at your own speed.

Arrival to Sarria, beginning of the last 100Km of the French Way.

Sarria – Portomarín (22 km)

The peaceful route from Sarria to Portomarín will take you through small villages, lovely landscapes and past Romanesque churches. At the end of the stage (22Km) you will arrive in Portomarín, which is one of the most beautiful villages of this part of the Camino.

Portomarín – Palas de Rei (25 km)

Today you will start walking through a pine forest, and the route will take you through many picturesque hamlets. The most interesting Romanesque church you will find is Santa María de Castromayor, after Portomarin. By the end of the stage you will get to Palas de Rei, one of the most emblematic stops of the French Way.

Palas de Rei – Arzúa (29 km)

This is the longest stage, Arzúa is 29 km away from Palas de Rei. For this reason, many pilgrims decide to stay in Melide, a small town which is halfway. One of the most interesting points is the medieval town of Ribadiso, just before Arzúa, one of the pilgrim´s favorite places. Once you get to Arzúa we recommend you taste the local typical cheese!

Arzúa-Pedrouzo (20 km)

The walk will take you through eucalyptus forests, charming villages and across small rivers. We strongly recommend you visit the Chapel of Santa Irene, which is a very common stop among pilgrims. Pedrouzo is quite small and during high season most of the accommodation can be fully booked. But do not worry, we have many different options in the area, which are also very popular.

Pedrouzo – Santiago (20 km)

Finally, we get to the last walking day of the Camino. You will be able to observe from the top of the hill, “Monte do Gozo”, the lovely city of Santiago de Compostela, and its beautiful cathedral, your ultimate goal. Many pilgrims stop there just before descending, recalling the best moments of an adventure that is about to finish. When you get to Santiago do not forget to go to the Pilgrim’s Office with your Pilgrim Passport if you want to get your “Compostela” (Pilgrim Certificate). If you still have some energy left, we recommend you continue your route to Muxía – have a look to the Camino Finisterre- Muxía.

It is the perfect route for inexperienced pilgrims, you will enjoy a social trail and interact with other pilgrims from all over the world. Sarria is the most chosen starting point, as it runs the last 100km of the French Way.

Desde Santiago de Compostela Airport

Car or cab: 116km with an estimated duration of 1 hour and 25 minutes.
Bus: Take the bus (LINE 6A) from Santiago de Compostela airport to the bus station. Frequency every 15′ and with an approximate duration of 20′. Another option is to take a cab to the station, with an estimated duration of 15′. Then, we must take a bus (monbus) to Sarria (1 hour and 50 minutes). Desde Madrid Airport

Car or cab: 500km with an estimated duration of 5h.
Plane: Take a flight to Santiago de Compostela, a 1h trip. Once at the airport take the bus (LINE 6A) from Santiago de Compostela airport to the bus station. Frequency every 15′ and with an approximate duration of 20′. Another option is to take a cab to the station, with an estimated duration of 15′. Train: From T4 take the suburban train (LÍNEA C1) towards Chamartín (17′ trip). Once there, transfer to the train towards Sarria (journey time 4h and 30 minutes) To consult timetables and more information visit: www.renfe.com

Desde Porto Airport

Car or cab: 280km with an estimated duration of 3 hours.
Bus: Take a bus (REDE EXPRESSOS) to Santiago de Compostela, journey time 3h 45 minutes. Once there, transfer to the bus (MONBUS) to Sarria, journey time 1h and 50 minutes. For schedules and more information visit: https://rede-expressos.pt/es and www.monbus.es

Desde Other nearby airports

From Vigo Airport: It is 160km with an estimated duration of 2h by car. Another option is to take the train (RENFE) from Vigo Guixar station to Ourense and there transfer to take the train to Sarria (total journey time about 5h). You can also take a bus (MONBUS) from Vigo Urzaiz station to Santiago, and once there, transfer to take a bus (monbus) to Sarria (journey time 1h and 50 minutes). From A Coruña Airport: It is 125km with an estimated duration of 1h and 20 minutes by car. Another option is to take the train (RENFE) from San Cristobal station to Sarria (2h and 30 minutes). You can also take the bus (ARRIVA) to Lugo and transfer to take a bus (MONBUS) to Sarria (total time 3h). Perfecta para tener un Buen Camino Muy buena experiencia, nos organizaron el camino francés desde Sarria tal y como les pedimos saliendo todo perfecto y según lo esperado.

Destacar que fuimos con un bebé y en todo alojamiento contamos con cuna tal y como habíamos pedido.

experiencia muy positiva Hice el camino frances desde sarria, todo muy bien organizado, a media pension,
tanto hoteles y pensiones bastante correctas.
algunos de ellos tenian restaurante, y desde luego es una ventaja, ya que al termino de la etapa del dia podias comer alli,
y sino te hacen un vale para comer muy cerca del alojamiento.
desde luego muy recomendable.
